BALTIMORE
Fall 2025 – Spring 2026
Inheritance Theater Project (ITP) is a national nonprofit that uses theater-making to spark conversation across silos and practice new ways of being in relationship with our neighbors. Over the past 10 years, we’ve worked in 18 cities across the U.S., supporting neighbors to collaborate across divides.
Now, we're in Baltimore. Together with local artists, faith leaders, and community leaders, we’re inviting you into a collaborative journey that uses playmaking and shared inherited texts as a new way into civic conversation. The process culminates in an original piece of theater created by and for Baltimore — but above all, our goal is relationship-building: to question, imagine, and practice how we want to be neighbors together.
The Baltimore project is led locally by Process Director Rain Pryor, Community Weaver Antoinette Duren and Mia Smith, and Producers Bridgette Burton and Evan Hall of Oh to Dream.
Where We Are Now
Brave Phase
Jan–May 2026
Over the past several months, we’ve been in our Friendraising Phase—a season of listening, learning, and relationship-building. Through 14 co-hosted events, 10 events attended, and 30+ partner meetings, we connected with 300+ Baltimoreans across neighborhoods, ages, professions, faith communities, and creative worlds.
Now we’re in the Brave Phase–time to invite people together across silos of neighborhood, profession, identity, age, expertise, lived experience, and more. Together, we ask:
-
How do we want to be Baltimore together?
-
What becomes possible when new people are in the room?
-
What happens when we create together instead of working alone?
-
What could mutual support across silos look like?
Our Brave Spaces usually take the form of:
-
Text Salons invite people “to the table” where an inherited text is on the menu—not each other. Through slow, shared reading, we practice listening and make space for different perspectives to sit side by side.
-
PlayLabs are hands-on, playful experiments guided by the Baltimore Visionary Cohort. Through artmaking and theater, participants explore open-ended questions, collaborate, take risks, and collectively imagine what might emerge.
-
Open Rehearsals are a chance to be a part of the artmaking process as the play takes shape. Watch and participate in rehearsal with the playmaking team and share your opinion on the story being told.
