"The Sarah Play"
2017
Bridged Division(s):
Faith, Race, Socio-Economics
Project Summary:
Working with mostly women in the Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities in Kansas City, we led a year-long bridge building place project focused on shared inheritance and divided existence. We brought these voices together to fill in a story the Torah and Qur'an largely leave untold. In the director's own words: "you cannot tell the story of Sarah without also telling the story of Hagar… but we noted how little voice they are given in the Torah and the Qur'an. Luckily in our salons with women in the Muslim and Jewish communities of Kansas City, from our first meetings with the sisterhood of Salaam/Shalom to our time with the female clergy at the Ntosake conference, we had no shortage of beautiful female voices to draw from."
