Relationships take rehearsal, too.

WHAT WE DO

Inheritance Theater Project offers trainings and retreats that help people use storytelling, creative collaboration, and participatory facilitation to build stronger relationships across lines of difference.

Partners come to us because they want new ways to:

  • build trust within teams and communities

  • facilitate deeper conversation

  • create more participatory spaces

  • move beyond polarized or surface-level dialogue

  • help people feel more connected to one another

Our trainings are rooted in the same methodology we use in our community-based theater projects across the country. Training participants experience the process firsthand—not as students or observers, but as collaborators.

Using exercises drawn from improvisation, theater-making, spiritual practices, storytelling, art-making, and group facilitation, we invite people to step outside their usual ways of working and relate to each other in new ways.

OUR APPROACH

We believe people build relationships by creating together.

Rather than debating ideas, participants are invited to:

  • Share lived experiences and histories

  • Practice listening with curiosity and care

  • Engage through movement, play, reflection, and storytelling

  • Collaborate creatively with others

  • Practice making decisions together

  • Experience what trust-building actually feels like in real time

We draw from years of collaborative theater-making with communities across the country, curating activities and facilitation tools based on the needs of each group.

CORE PRINCIPLES

Our trainings are grounded in the same values that shape all of ITP’s community-based work.

TRAININGS & RETREATS

LISTENING
We practice deep, attentive listening as a way to better understand one another’s experiences, histories, and communities.
EMPATHY
We invite participants to step into perspectives beyond their own and discover the humanity that connects us.
CURIOSITY
We approach every story, history, and perspective with an open mind, encouraging exploration, questions, and discovery.
COLLABORATION
We foster spaces where people work together, blending their experiences, talents, and ideas into shared creation.
ACCESS
We offer ways for participants to activate a multiplicity of voices.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS LEAVE WITH

Participants leave with:

  • A toolbox of practical activities, prompts, games, and facilitation formats they can bring into their own classrooms, organizations, teams, and communities

  • Deepened relationships with fellow participants

  • Greater confidence navigating difference and difficult conversations

  • New ways to invite participation and connection

  • Permission to play, experiment, and work outside of habitual patterns

Participants don’t just talk about connection—they practice it together.
